Director and Builder

Paul is the Director and Owner of Balance and brings over 30 years of experience to the business. Known for his honesty, integrity, and strong reputation in the industry, Paul began his journey in construction in 1994, completing his Carpentry and Joinery trade with respected local builders on the Coffs Coast.

In 1998, Paul earned his Builder’s License and soon after began building his own homes—gaining first-hand experience that has shaped his hands-on, quality-driven approach. In 2002, he joined a major building company, where he honed his skills in construction management, estimating, design, and team leadership.

Today, Paul oversees every aspect of the business with a focus on precision, customer satisfaction, and craftsmanship. Detail-oriented and deeply passionate about what he does, Paul takes great pride in delivering high-quality homes tailored to each client’s lifestyle and vision.

Jalene Phinn

Senior Design Principal

Jalene is our Senior Design Principal. She has both a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design and a Bachelor of Teaching, accompanied by over 10 years of experience in the Building and Design industry. Her skills and expertise in interior design are a valuable asset to your next build.

With a passion for creating spaces that are both functional and beautiful, Jalene brings a thoughtful, collaborative approach to every project. From computer-generated imagery that helps you visualise your dream space, to fully developed interior design concepts backed by practical building knowledge, she ensures a seamless design process from concept to completion. Jalene’s eye for detail, love for timeless aesthetics, and deep understanding of construction make her an integral part of bringing your vision to life.

Jon Newton

Project Manager

Jon Newton is a highly respected member of the Coffs Harbour community and a valued part of the Balance team. A true Coffs Coast local, Jon brings decades of hands-on experience in the construction industry.

Having previously owned and operated his own successful building business, Jon now serves as our dedicated Site Supervisor. His deep understanding of local building standards, strong relationships with trades, and commitment to quality ensure every project runs smoothly and meets the highest standards. Jon’s leadership on-site reflects not only his technical expertise but also his genuine care for clients and their homes.

David Young

Building Designer

Dave brings nearly 20 years of experience in the construction industry as a highly skilled Building Designer. His extensive background includes deep knowledge of the latest building technologies, energy-efficient design, council liaison, supplier negotiations, and collaboration with engineers and subcontractors across a wide range of projects.

Utilising cutting-edge 3D software, Dave transforms your vision into detailed, practical construction plans. His expertise allows him to confidently tackle challenging sites—whether steep, flat, flood-prone, or in bushfire zones—turning even the most complex blocks into truly exceptional spaces.
